Celebration at the table is an ancient and powerful
rite. From gathering around a campfire to
Roman triclinia to medieval banquet halls to
today’s pop-up restaurants, humans are always
keen to gather together for a blow-out meal. The
material culture of these events has much to
teach us. For this project 16 students worked
together to create everything needed for a massive
one-night feast for the UO Board Of Trustees.
Furniture, tableware, textiles, and lighting: everything
was designed and built by the students.

The feast was a group demonstration. All students
contributed in all aspects of design and production.
We were broken into groups to oversee the
completion of different elements, myself being in charge of
the lighting / sculptural focus. Along with fellow student James
Casserly, we designed, built and assembled the
hanging ceiling sculptures shown in several of the
images. All for under a budget of $200 dollars.
